Driftly — Privacy Policy
Where your traffic actually goes, what never leaves your phone, and the short list of things Driftly itself contacts.
The short version
- Your traffic never passes through us. It goes from your phone to the server you picked, run by you or by your provider.
- Your servers, subscriptions and rules stay on your phone. We have no account system and no copy of them.
- No ads, no analytics, no tracking SDKs, and nothing sold or shared with anyone.
- No sign-up. No email address, no phone number.
1. What stays on your phone
The servers you add, your subscription addresses, your routing choices and the rules you make for individual sites are stored only on your device. The list of recent connections on the Data tab is kept in memory while the app runs and is never uploaded. Deleting the app deletes all of it.
2. Where your traffic goes
When Driftly is connected, your phone sends internet traffic to the server you selected, following your routing rules: some sites go through that server, some go directly, and some can be blocked. Those servers are not run by us. They belong to you or to the provider whose subscription you added, and that operator's own privacy policy covers what they can see. Choose servers you trust.
3. Everything Driftly itself contacts
| Who | Why | What they receive |
|---|---|---|
| Your subscription provider | To fetch the server list, when you add or refresh a subscription | A normal web request to the address you entered |
| Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) or the DNS server you choose | To look up web addresses, sent through your selected server | The names of sites you visit, encrypted (DNS over HTTPS) |
| Cloudflare (1.1.1.1/cdn-cgi/trace) | To show which country your connection appears to come from | A request from your server's address, not your own |
| GitHub | To download the public lists of each country's IP addresses used by "local stays local" routing | A request for the list, sent through your selected server |
| Google (gstatic.com) | To measure each server's speed, only when you run a latency test | A tiny test request through the server being measured |
| Mintybits (mintybits.com) | To check for app updates when the app starts | Your platform (iOS or Android) and the app's version. Like any web server, ours sees the IP address the request comes from; we don't link it to anything. |
| Apple App Store or Google Play | To check whether a newer version is available | Handled by the store itself, under its own privacy policy |
4. What Driftly never does
- No advertising, and no advertising identifiers.
- No analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.
- No logging of the sites you visit on our side. We never see your traffic.
- No selling or sharing of your data with anyone.
- No access to your contacts, photos or location. The camera is used only to scan a server QR code, and the image never leaves your phone.
5. The VPN permission
On Android and iOS, Driftly uses the system's VPN feature so that it can route your traffic to the server you selected according to your rules. It doesn't use that access for anything else: not to collect data, not to inject content and not to show ads.
6. Children
Driftly is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. It collects no personal data from anyone.
7. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that affects what leaves your device, we will update the date at the top of this page and note the change in the app's release notes.
